Distinguished and Famous people from Croydon
🌾 James and Walter Aldridge
James and Walter Aldridge were prospectors associated with the gold discovery that transformed Croydon in 1885. Having worked on the Etheridge field, they moved into the Croydon district, where their work became part of the discovery story alongside pastoralist W. C. Brown. Accounts differ about the precise circumstances, so the familiar tale of a chance find in a posthole should be treated as local legend. What followed is clearer: a rapid rush, new businesses and a mining settlement connected to the wider region by rail.
